I have a 1979 f150 2wd with a 300 6cyl and a clark 4 spd overdrive
The clutch is going fast and the olny place i have to work is out in the boonies so multiple parts runs are going to be difficult. I know the engine is not original to the truck but i don't know if its a 79 engine or not.
I see clutches listed for for 73-77 and 78-79. whats the differeces between them? and will it matter if the engine is a 77 or a 79?
i'd like to put a flywheel in it too.
any help would be great, I'm new to this ford stuff.
Not sure, but it apperars to be the pressure plate that makes the difference. The clutch disc itself is the same part # in a book I am looking at. It also shows that the change was at '77½, so some 77's take one type while others take another. You might want to post in the 6cyl forum and see if any flywheel/balance changes took place in '77. If not, then I would say go for the later style. It might have something to do with release pressure, clutch pedal travel, etc. Possibly it has more to do with the truck itself rather than the engine.
