with that being said you get what you pay for. This is my second ford truck. The first was a75 F100 with a 302 swaped in, shouldent have sold it. Now I was reacently given a 77 F250. it has some different problems but i know it runs. It hasent been started in a bout two months so i thought i would try. I turn the key and nothing bridge the silonoid and nothing but sparks but no nothing further . any help will be aprecieated

ok, so here is what we have, add missing details...... good, fully charged battery, crossed terminals on solenoid and no crank...... any noise? any sparks? if no crank but slight or sometimes no clunk, the starter may be engaged to the flywheel and you will have to hand crank the engine over to release it, if that doesnt work remove the inspection plate and check the flywheel/flexplate............................

auto or manual trans?

no noise, with crossed terminals. Yes to the sparks. The starter is free and in the resting position (took it out to inspect it and check the conection). also its an auto trans

I'd say if the motor sat for a little while, grab a socket and 1/2" drive and turn the engine over by hand using the crank bolt. Just to see if she isnt stuck at all. Turn it at least 2 full revolutions by hand and listen/watch for binds.

Does the starter work off the truck? if you test it on a bench, CLAMP it down, or it'll twist and fall off... u know one of those murphy's law kinda thing. Just 'cuz the starter looks like it works, doesnt mean it will.

if the engine turns over by hand and the starter works out of the truck, Check all your grounds, make sure the battery is grounded to the block good.

good luck

Thanks for all the help. First it was the combination of the starter ,silonoid and wrong battery(PO put in a shiny brand new one but bought it at wally world and diddnt look at the label) I have replaced all three and she now runs, not perfect but for free with no smoke from the exaust and no slipin the trans cant ask for more.
