While driving, I am feeling what I think to be the right rear brake engaging. It goes away when I hit the brakes to stop. This started after I changed the front brakes and rotors. While changing my front brake pads, one of the pistons kept extending after I had pushed it back. I don't believe this is normal. Can someone enlighten me on this and tell me how to fix it?
Did you open the bleeder screw when you "pushed in" the pistons? If so, good. If not, you have forced debris in to your ABS valve and should bleed your brakes soon.
The pistons should not extend if there is no pressure in the system.
There is also a slight chance that the inner layer of your brake hose has seperated from the cording and is causing a blockage of reverse flow of brake fluid.
This causes some pressure to be on that one caliper piston so it would want to push back out.
The caliper pins also should be cleaned & lubed so the caliper "free floats" and self adjusts.
One second thought. If your rear seems to be sticking.
You probably have rust & debris hanging up in your emergency brake shoes.
Pull your rotor/drum asm. inspect & clean out with a can of brake cleaner.
It was a build-up of dust and rust in the e-brake drum. I pulled the rotor and used a wire wheel on a grinder to remove all the rust and repeated on the other side. Thanks again.
