dana 60 front end

Question, I have a friend that has a 87 f-350 crew cab 4X4. On the front knuckle what is it that holds it to the axle. He said it is not a ball joint or a king pin. I'm confused. What is it? Or is he just looking at the part wrong and it is a ball joint.

ball joints hold knuckle, spindle holds wheel bearings etc

Also,

Dana 60 front axles before 1992 use kingpins at the knuckle, after 1992 they use balljoints. Different folks claim one or the other is better/stronger.
