Turbo timer???????

Hey guys whats going on. I was looking into getting a turbo timer for my 2006 f250 and I was wondering if there was any one brand that was better than the others. I'm also wondering what you guys use. I'm just looking for a system thats reliable and I won't have any trouble. I'm new to diesel's so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

You can get an alarm with a turbo timer built in. It's not automatic but it can be activated with the push of a button. Also if you have an EGT gauge you can see when the temp gets below 400* and shut it down then. Also if you run synthetic oil you don't have to worry about it at all.

i use a Viper 791 that works really well for my truck. i don't know if you like/need these features but it also is an alarm and has a pager that tells you if someone is breaking into your truck and ID if its the hood or the door in a little black and white diagram thingy on the remote.

Thanks for your input riggz and adambomb. I would love to replace the factory alarm system and purchase a viper system. Unfortunately I can not, due to my in-sufficient funds, if you know what I mean. So as of now I'm just looking to get a turbo timer that way I do not have to sit in my truck and wait for the turbo to spool down. However, I do also like your idea of the gauge riggz. What does all of that entail and how much would that set me back?
thanks guys.

also, Would either a timer or a gauge void my warranty.

*edit* I'm looking for something like this

From what I've seen the cost of a turbo timer is the same or just a bit less than an alarm w/ turbo timer & remote start. I got my Viper 5900SST for around $225 and installed it myself. A single EGT gauge will run about $130-175 depending upon the brand.

I just let it cool, then get out and leave. I also don't drive it really hard just before I shut it down. To me just seams like something else to spend money on. Just my two cents.

ingman,

You are absoulutely correct. If I knew what I know now...I would not have purchased a turbo timer.....just a gauge is sufficient.

I can pull a long heavy grade with my 5th wheel, exit the freeway and by the time I get to the place I am stopping at it takes about a minute to cool down to 350*....I am straight piped though....

i thought i was set on finding a turbo timer... but you guys are getting me thinking. What does installing a gauge entail? Can I just plug it into the factory harness or do I have to run my own wires to the engine? I now I can install which ever I just don't know if I have the time( yeah I'm that busy). joe blow: One question if you had to guess, if it takes your staight piped 6.0 a minute to cool down, what would I be expecting from a 6.0 with the stock exhaust

also If I decide to get the gauge what other gauges should I look into? because I most likely will get the A pillar gauge mount.

thanks

A pyrometer gauge involves drilling the bottom of the exhaust manifold for a temp probe and simple wiring for the gauge. Not very difficult, if you have some mechanical know how and a decent set of tools.

In regards to the cool down with a stock exhaust...not too sure, since you have a CAT which retains heat and the muffler which kinda restricts some exhaust flow and retains some heat as well. A gauge will be very helpful.

Gauges I monitor..EGT, trans, coolant and boost.

I have a Quadzilla commander gauge (stand alone digital) that monitors all four on one screen.

yankee88 i'd appreciate it if you did not post your questions in my thread. thanks.

joe blow: I am going to look into the commander gauge. Is that thequadzilla the only one that makes a commander gauge? I suppose this would be the same install procedures correct? also, will instalation of a gauge void my warranty?

Thanks guys ya'll are helping me out a bunch.

WELL.....No it will not void your warranty, BUT if your dealer is anything like my ford dealer was.....These POS idiots hassled me everytime I brought my truck in because of those particular gauges.
