dana 60 question....
I have another question regarding axles here. On the 60 rear, two of my trucks have the axleshaft held in with nuts and split cone washers whereas on my others, the axleshaft is held in with capscrews. The 60 that had the split cone washers (the one I had apart so far) was out of my 69 camper special and it had 16? splines. I havent had a chance to pull the other axle apart but im gathering it is 16? splines too. My question is: are all the 60's that had the split cone washers early/late 16? spline units? Is this a good assumption? The reason that I am asking is that the one vehicle that has that axle supposedly is registered as a 75 and IF this axle was used on early to late 60's F250's, it MIGHT BE that I have a mid 60's F250 4x4. I still cant find where the VIN is stamped on the frame rail to ID my truck! Nonetheless, Im really curious about the split cone vs capscrew arrangement on the D60's! Anyone???
regards
Ben
on the axle thing, thats interesting, my 75 4x4 has a fine splined axle I didn't count guessing 31? my 75 2wd has 16 spline axles. I don't know if it has something to do with one being a trak loc and one not.
but they are all held in with bolts not studs and nuts.
I haven't pulled the axles out of my 76 to know what it has yet.
hope I helped with the frame number though, its there you can usualy see it looking down inside the engine bay near the starter almost under the inner fender edge. its stamped on that frame rail farther down the frame in a few places but this is the easiest one to see.
