I have an 88 F-250 with 460 eng. It is mildly built up for towing and 4 wheeling. Motor is newly rebuilt, air intake is stock except for k and n filter. Exhaust is stock except cat. was gutted years ago. I want to put on new exhaust system from the manifolds back. I have lots of room underneath, and want the system quiet. In my go fast days cadillac reverse flow mufflers were the ticket. But it sounds like a buffet of choices today.
Any ideas on type of muffler and size of pipe to run? Would like to see some performance gain and price is not my priority but quality and low noise is..I am really lost in this category and don't trust the muffler shops locally to do anything but sell me what they can make most profit on.
Ok, well having some sort of cat does quiet the system down a bit. Buying a cat just for that is an expensive way to go.
We carry 2 lines of mufflers, and about the quietest we carry is the 22" WickedFlow. To keep it quieter and build the torque for low end, I would use 2.5" pipe. So the correct muffler would be the WickedFlow 22SC250. These mufflers can still put out some sound when you get into it, but are pretty quiet the rest of the time.
Our store is still undergoing some changes and updates, so right now it doesn't estimate shipping correctly, but rather just a flat rate estimate.
