lights/bulbs keep blowing

Is anyone else haveing problems with lights going out? 15K on this truck and I have had to replace lights 8 times. I have had both mirror lights go out, twice! I have also had two marker lights go out, tonight it happened again so thats three times for the markers. Lastly I have had one tail light/blinker go out. This is insane! Who makes these bulbs? Did Ford go to China and use child labor for these things?

Never had a problem with any lights or bulbs. In fact I have added about 9 lights to the truck and still no problems. Sounds like you have some sort of wiring or fuse or other electrical problem. Does you dealer have any answers for you?

It's not the bulbs, it sounds like you are getting voltage spikes. I had an identical problem many years ago on a car and I wired up a volt meter to a cigarette plug and had to show the dealer the spikes. Unfortunately it was back in the 70s and I can't remember what had gone bad. Probably the voltage regulator, but I'm not sure.

Good luck.

X2 on the high voltage. Measure your voltage.

Why? I don't understand why you guys are always moving posts. It's a 2008 F350 Diesel so I posted in the Diesel forum as I always do when it concerns my truck. Is it really a big deal? If I was referring to a Saturn fine but other wise just leave it.

Doesn't really matter which engine!
The only thing that will cause bulbs to blow is high voltage. Or spikes. Check at battery while running for no more than 14.6 volts.. You might have gotten a bad batch of bulbs during production..

The engine has nothing to do with electrical. Your issue is more of a Super Duty related issue than it is a Diesel issue. Have you taken it in to the dealer to get these bulbs replaced or are you replacing them yourself? If so are you using cheap bulbs or name brand?

My driver's side reverse light burst the first week I had the truck. I still haven't replaced it. I just pulled the old bulb and broken glass out of the housing.

Are you useing the auto light option on your headlight switch. I blew a led tower because i was keeping my switch in the auto mode. The surge of starting the truck is probably what blew my light, it might be whats blowing yours if you have the auto light setup.

Weird. You must have a voltage spike from somewhere, or an alternator overcharging. With a volt meter, check the voltage at the battery, and at the cigarette lighter. If it's over 14.3 volts or so, it's too high.

I've noticed that lots of other brand vehicles have blown taillights, markers, headlights, you name it. Not Fords, or at least, no way near as much. One manufacturer had a recall about it I think. Chevy?

Anyway, no where's near normal.

As for moving this thread out of the diesel forum, it works two ways. One, you'll get more answers in the SD forum because it's not only diesel-related. Second, this thread will help more Superduty owners overall.

Only three things I know of that would be causing this. First voltage too high. Second bag ground(s). This is usually associated with only one light or just the back lights, for example. Lastly is very poor bulbs. Ford has not had issues with this, that I know of GM has and many cheap aftermarket bulbs also are know to fail quickly.
As far as the forum, like the other said, you may have better luck in the superduty forum as maybe someone with a gas engine has had this problem and could help you. Don't exclude everyone you can for helping.

I have two more marker lights out now. It's been about 3k miles since my last oil change/bulb replacement. I have lost count but I think I am over ten bulbs in 18k miles. I have had the mirror light both go out, twice! Thats four. Then at least five or six marker lights and one taillight. Ford always says, Uh.... Doh....Uhhhhh nothings wrong. I've tested the battery and I have not got anything over 14.5 volts. What can I do about this?

USUALLY the moves make sense. This time it seems a bit strange.

I can understand why the post was moved FROM the Diesel forum -- it's almost certainly not related to the diesel. What I don't understand is why they moved it TO SuperDuty instead of moving it to the Electrical Systems/Wiring forum where it seems to belong.
