I searched this forum and found plenty of information about my problem. I have an ESOF system on my 01 PSD and it wouldn't go into 4wd and the ac blows through the defrost. I have replaced the vacuum lines to the hubs and I got it to work momentarily. I am presently stuck in 4x4 low and after getting the ac to blow out the vents it has returned to the defrost.
How can I get out of 4x4 low?
Secondly, what are the things called that the hose plugs into on the hub? Mine are pretty rusty and would like to replace them. Anyone have a part no. or can I get them at a parts store, what size are they?
Dont know what those hose fittings are called but I belive they are a Ford only part.
Does your vaccum pump work at all? Sounds like the pump may not be working.
Bump to the top for somebody that knows more.
My fittings are corroded too. I was going to take one out and match up a brass barbed fitting at Home Depot or Lowe's (plumbing dept.), unless someone here has a reason this wouldn't work.
Thanks. They are pretty rusty and don't know if the vacuum line is even able to seal around it. The lines have been off for awhile now, just getting around to replacing.
If your hubs are just stuck take them out per the instructions on the link Welcome to guzzle's 4x4 Autolock Hub Lubrication Maintenance Web Page and grease them up and you will see how they work and should be able to "Reset" them. If the truck is driving in low it might be a transfer case issue...
Well the dash lights are on and won't go off. I just did this this afternoon after work. I believe it is in 4 low because, having a six speed, I can start out in about third gear; it may not be in 4x4 but it is in low. I don't know how I could unlock the hubs. If they are set on auto and I put it in 4 low with ESOF, the ESOF system locks the hubs automatically and unlocks them when you turn the switch off, am I correct?
My experience was that the fitting was a Ford only part. I looked around a little but could not find a good match. The hoses were rotten and I replaced them at the same time as the fittings. Then I also had to replace the vac pump. I don't know how to tell you to disengage the 4x4, soory.
I know there is a way to unplug some solenoid that does something with the TC but Im not sure where it is or if it would even do anything. It might be a bad ESOF switch as well. I think the vacuum system is the least of your probs right now. Im not familiar with the TC and its components enough to guide you any farther...hopefully someone else knows somethin more!
Thanks to all that posted with advice. Today I was able to get my truck to shift out of 4 low. Anyway I noticed that the electric vacuum pump mounted on the passenger fender runs constantly. Am I correct in guessing I have a leak that prevents the pump from shutting off?

Yep, you have a leak. I would just unplug the vac pump until you get a chance to locate the leak. You should also check out FTEPARTSGUY, aka Ed, website. He has an ESOF repair kit that has all the seals you need to get your ESOF working again (click on the big F650 to go to his specials, you'll see it in there). Buy 4' of vacuum tubing (can't recall size now) and replace the lines going from the frame to the hubs also (very cheap).
