Headers???

been looking into replacing my manifolds with headers and was wondering about the experience with any installs. shorty headers? long tubes? and what it takes... looks like engine needs lifted to clear to install?

and.......... i have a busted off manifold bolt head. cant tell if the threads are still in the manifold but you can definitely see the back of the bolt on the head. fyi, if it matters, pass side first bolt on my 360. any ideas for removal?

I just put a set of long tubes on my 76 F-100 2wd with 460. I had to jack up the motor about 4 inches, pull the front cross member. And it really was convenient to take off the front clip.

i did my long tube header on a 390, all i did was take out the starter and put it in from the bottom. just remember you have to put the starter and header in at the same time. i had someone help me from the bottom and i pulled them up through the top

I had the same problem when I installed some Hedman long tube headers, it barely clears the starter on my 72- 390, I had to bend the Battery cable tab on the starter and slip on a heater shielded wire loom on it. I lifted the engine about 4 inches. I also lightly sanded mine before I installed them 5 years ago and spray painted them with some flame resistant high temp paint, so far they still look new. At that time my engine was mostly stock, once I installed the headers and flowmasters, there was a significant improvement in acceleration. Looking back I should of replaced the starter with a smaller after market one to safe me a future aggrevation of starter replacement.

Oh, also When I removed the bolts on the old manifold, I had four brake on me, even though I had used wd40 for four days before I started working on them fu#$%*g da$ bolts. So after a few minutes of that I proceded to remove the heads and found other problems, since they were off I procede to have the heads shaved off a little, since I had terrible leaks on my old manifolds #1 and on the back of the engine on both sides---Wise Decision. Use some new header bolts. You will love the end results----trust me, it was the first time I had ever attempted something this big in an engine compartment.

I just put headers on my 71',

I guess I got real lucky because I just had to take the starter out for my long tubes to clear the 360. Its a 2wd.

I am having one problem with the drivers side not sealing up and leaking between the block and the header. I have tried new gaskets and copper spray, I even sandwiched both gaskets together and it still didnt work.
