It just came to me that while searching for the frame motor supports and towers for the 52 I thought that this flathead came out of a 47 ford truck and also has the stock transmission that I may not need the towers to raise it up on the supports to level out with the trans like in a stock 52. Does anyone have any thoughts on this. I found the front frame supports and the trans crossmember just down the street from me. So, with the flathead being a 59A-B model from a 1947 do I need the towers to raise it? Thanks, any info will be appreciated.
I think the mounts a on both engines are lacated in the same place.
The engine should set at the proper height with the 52 frame and mount pads and the earlier engine
O.K. I may take you up on that. I am in Springfield. I need to do a few other thing to the frame and engine before I am ready to set it on the frame. Just wanting to see if the towers or pads make it too high. Also not sure if the original 52 flathead is the same height as the 47 model. Just trying to figure things out. Thanks Stu. I will get in contact with you.
Sounds good. I've got a couple 8BAs on carts you can measure to compare to the 59AB if you need. I don't have any new sets of mount pads though. But we can take a quick and dirty measurement from the pads in one of my trucks. PM me when you're ready to come out. Stu
You will need the towers for the 59A-B flathead just as you would the 8B-A as the water pumps are at the same height on both motors. Also use the motor mount donuts for the 48-51 F-1's or the universal ones from like Speedway.
AFAIK the only difference between 51 and 52 motor mounts (rubber parts) is a metal sleeve inside the mounts, different washers. I am pretty certain the installed height of the mount is the same. For sure the tranny mounts are the same for 48 - 52.
52 rubber mounts are unique. Both rubber parts are beefier than the early ones. The mount bolt is also different, they are longer for 52 only. I had a tough time finding some bolts and ended up making a couple. I am not sure if the 52 only mount bolt is reproduced.
