Newbie hauling question

Hey all!

Just curious about something. I'm about to take a trip to South Carolinia from Washington, DC...about 500 miles... in my 05 SCRW. I will have two motorcycles in the back and will be trailering another one (all sport bikes)...in addition to carrying two passengers and some luggage. This will be my first time hauling a "heavy" load such a long distance. Just curious when/if I should turn the O/D off or any other pointers. Or, am I just being paranoid and this is nothing for the F150.

Thanks!

You nailed it right on the head, you are just being paranoid. A small trailer with 1,500 lbs of motorcycles it will pull those all day long no problem in OD. I have pulled up to 5,000 lbs in OD and it does not want to downshift much.

P.S. sounds like a playday getaway have fun!!!

If you feel the transmission shifing in and out of OD or the torque converter unlocking and locking, then I would lock out OD for awhile. Ford calls this 'Tow / Haul mode" for a reason. Just my thoughts on this. Have a great trip.

i have hauled a bed full of river rock with a ski boat on the hitch and a crew cab full of fatbacks and she never even seemed like she felt it even with these stupid 3.55 gears, in od! you are more than fine, these trucks will astound you on the amount they can pull and seem to want more, as long as your tranny doesn't seem to be hunting for gears a lot then you will be fine the upshift here and there is nothing to worry about especially on a hill, but if it seems to be excessive switch od off just to be on the safe side, its what i do
