I'm a big FE fan, and have building them for over 40 years. I've always heard it stood for Ford-Edsel. Try this post: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...stand-for.html

Ford Motor Company also refers to them as the "Ford-Edsel" engine. When was Edsel Ford born? Probably prior to the introduction of the FE motor.

I'm guessing that MEL means "Mercury, Edsel, Lincoln". Also guessing that it refers to the 383/430/462 family of large V8 engines. I have a 403 with the B9ME heads and intake in a 1960 T-bird. It is all stock, but has the torque of a diesel!

You can still donate it to me, I offer FREE removal of unwanted 87 Ranger 4x4 X-cab's. And you can write it off on your taxes as a contribution to a charitable, worthy cause!.
