Battery quesiton

Hello all,

I have a 05 F350 PSD and I just went to turn her over. Slugish and then I got the click click click.....guages were pulsing a little. The battery light came on (red) idiot light. I have only owned this truck for six months, so I don't know how long the batterys were in for. I know that they are Motorcaft and say Ford on them...so I am guessing they are original.

Are the batteries shot...yes it has two batteries.

Any suggestions or comments would be appriciated.

I hate to see her in the driveway with the hood up.

Thanks all.....Mike821

the only way to tell is to have each battery load tested while un-hooked from truck. I just went through this on my 07 one battery was bad the other was fine. alot of people say change both, if you can, that would be best but you can get by with only replacing the bad one.

I too went through this revcently. I had the same issue with my truck and replaced both batteries. Everything was hunky dorey for about six months and then it started again. Turns out it was the alternator was charging intermitently and after a while, the batteries would get too low and then go dead. I would recommend you test your alternator as well as testing your batteries.

Hope this helps.

Ditto the previous two posts. Have them checked and if one is bad, I'd change both. You're buying a lot of "piece of mind" for a couple hundred bucks.

Had to replace both batteries in my 05 PSD at 32 months. Alternator checked ok. If you don't have dual alternators, 3 year replacement of batteries could be common if you live or drive in a colder climate. The glow plugs do draw a lot of juice. 4 years isn't too bad.

Thanks guys.....I disconnected both batteries and put them on charge. They both were reading red in the window....40% charge. I just got pissed and decided to go out and buy two new batteries. At least I can get from place to place for now if my alternator(s) are bad. I will check them out later this week. Plus Like Greg B said....four years on the OEM batteries is good.

As a note.....I was looking at the Duralast batteries at the local Pep Boys. They were running about $100 a battery with a 36 month replacement no questions asked. I am a member of the local Costco (price club) and decided to stop by on my way to Pep Boys. Glad I did.....they had the generic brand Kirkland battery that has 800 cold and 1000 above 32 deg F. Now the kicker is the warranty.....36mo replacement and 100 months pro-rated. The guy behind the desk was telling me that he could not find a better deal. $72 for each with a $9 core charge. Well I was sold.

I did some research and found out that the Kirkland batteries are made by Johnson Controls. FYI....

Now it is a matter of checking my alt and see if it is working as it should.
