Hi, i was having problems where after driving up a hill in my 83 f250 straight six my engine would be really hot and radiator fluid would be spraying out of my bottom hose and i was wondering what could be the problem. i already changed the head gasket dont think that was the problem. what else could it be?
I'd replace you lower hose as well. Whens the last time the radiator was serviced? Is it original? Could it be getting plugged with crap reducing the efficiency? Around here it only costs $50 to have a radiator rodded out.
we just replaced the hose like 3 weeks ago. and i will talk to my machanic bout servcing the radiator it is the origanal and had sit for a while so im sure its pretty bad
ok thanks for the help i will let you know how it comes after we get her runnin again and see how the head gasket worked and see if we damaged any push rods when we took the head off and put the rods back in and adjusted them... :/
You might take a look at your thermostat also. If the plug and spring assembly is off center it can bind on its own frame and not open all the way. If this is happening you would see marks where the parts were rubbing against each other. By the way, it is possible that a thermostat could have been installed backwards. I think the moving parts I just mentioned go into the engine block so they are as hot as the water in the block.
