As many know who have seen my post, I am in the searching stages for a frame for 51 f1.....I have found two opitons, one being a very kind person on here has one for a good price, but I will have some time and fuel cost in it, which brings me to my second option.....I have found a 54 truck less than 3 miles from my house, complete truck. He only wants 400 for it.
Is the frame going to work for my 51 or not, or what is interchangable? What seems to be the better option? Let me know what you think.
I seriously doubt it as the frame is narrower at the front forward of the cab mounts on the 51 where as the 54 is 34" wide all the way end to end. Good deal if you were working on a 53-56, so keep searching.
i believe your 51 frame "should" be 32'
but from what your working with you may get away with some modification, but i dont know, i've never did it.
you never know, it could be better than the galaxie frame you have now
is the 54 is good enuf shape to restore it?
Buy the 54 for a future project and keep searching for another frame for your 51. I've used a chevy frame for my 56 panel and I know that someone else has used the same on an f-1 as well, just can't think of who at the moment. So it is possible that the 54 would work but there is going to be things that will have to change to make things work. When swopping anything there is going to be modifacations that have to be made, it's up to you in how easy you want to make it, as one thing always leads to another, lol.
to add on to 56panel... you could try going to a junk yard, and just start measuring wheel bases and frame widths to see what you can find to work with. theres a f1 frame diagram in my misc albums you can use to go by.
