hi there to one and all i have a few questions to ask i have just got hold of a 69 f100 ranger in excellent condition but i am thinking of changing a few things on it my buddy is trying to talk me into converting it from manual to auto it is a 300 cubic inch six he said i could put a c4 tranny in it i dont intend to carry anything in it so it is just gonna be my toy so here is my list
1 how much would it cost to convert from manual to auto
2 i would like to convert to power steering i think it has the bendix box
3 i was told the beds were unchanged up till 79 i cant find any listings of tonneau covers for 69 models it is a long bed
4 seeing that i wont be hauling anything in my truck what diff center could i put in to get better economy for highway cruising
hoping to get some advice to my questions thank you btw the bed has never been scratched or dented from new or been rained on
it has a camper shell on it

Beds are the same 67-72 the 73-79 (dent side) beds are totally different. As for a C4 it could be done but if you want economic highway cursing the manual is better for that as the C4 doesn't have a lock up torque converter so it always slips. Behind a 300 I really like a manual more than an auto. The auto soaks up a lot of torque and takes that 300 pep away and leaves it kind of a dog. You would need a new steering colum from an auto truck possibly a new transmission crossmember and I am pretty sure you will need a shorter drive shaft, oh yeah and a transmisson. As for changing out the 3rd member in the rear end it isn't a big deal, what gear do you have now? Just be sure to get the spline count the same when you go junk yard hunting they came with 28 or 31 splines on the axle shafts.

thanks johnboy for your response as soon as i learn how to post some pics of my truck i will do so most of my friends that have seen it said it is the best one they have ever seen the interior is like brand new the only thing i am changing in the cab is the instrument cluster lens i got it from npd ford parts in nc
