Anyone have a picture of the inside of the single function reservoir? it seems someone has modified it by drilling a hole in one of the ports. The issue is fuel drain back, when you turn the key the pump runs a long time before cutting off. Does it contain any kind of relief valve? Has anyone ever eliminated it? It's on a van so I don't need the extra fuel supply for abrupt manuvers or climbing off road.
What year are we talking about (1980)?
What fuel system do you have (FI or Carb)?
Is this an after market fuel pump mounted outside the fuel tank?
Can you post a photo of this single function reservoir?
Thanks for the reply! It is a 88' E-150 w/4.9 single tank/ EFI. The single function reservoir is located behind the fuel tank and is plumbed in series between the low pressure pump in the tank and the filter and high pressure pump on the frame rail. The reservoir is a round black canister made of plastic.
The check valve is in the high pressure pump on the frame.
Sounds like your computer may going bad if the pump runs for a long time when you turn on the key.
It should time out in one second time period by the computer.
The running of the pump when you turn on the key has nothing to do with fuel in the fuel lines, it does not shut off on a fuel pressure build up.

Thanks, would that still explain the fact that it won't start until the pump shuts off? In other words ; if you hit the key a few minutes after a warm start up the pump cycles about a sec and then it starts up. If you wait about 15 mins to start the engine it won't start until the pump stops running; about 10-15 sec.
