crank pulley

1999 f-150 4.2v6 ...crank pulley nut,is it left or right hand thread?.......is crank pulley easy to remove and replace with new one?........or do i have to remove certain things like fan shroud,fan,etc.....it appears that i can remove it without removing anything else.....but is the new one going to go on with the limited space that allowed it to be removed,or will i need the extra room for tapping it carefully in place,by removing shroud etc.......is this going to be harder than it looks?.....once i confirm crankshaft pulley bolt thread configuration (right or left hand thread)i am ready to jump into this ,unless someone here advises otherwise regarding something that should be left to a shop,as far as this type of repair is concerned....any help is appreciated thank you

Lefty loosey, righty tighty, unless you have one of the ones made for foreign export.Same with the fan.If that is out of the way it is wide open. Why replace it?

crank pulley

the balancer weight has separated from the pulley, and is free wheeling now, causing a lot of noise , and vibration, this is why i am replacing it.....i would appreciate a clear definite answer regarding the left or right hand thread on the crank pulley bolt....i dont need righty tighty lefty loosy....or maybe its some european thing...as im sure you know some bolts like on a harley davidson for instance, tighten when you turn it to the left and loosen to the right hence the term lefthand thread....thats all i need to know , i would like to be absolutely certain that this bolt is being turned the right way so i don't break it off.any other info outside of what is already obvious regarding this repair that will make my job easier based on the model i described earlier, will also be appreciated thank you.

From: Long Beach, Ms.
The bolt will tighten in the direction OPPOSITE to the direction of rotation. To loosen it turn it in the SAME direction as the pulley rotates.

How about this then? The "crank pulley bolt" just a normal "bolt" that's very tight.

Its the fan clutch connection that's a backhand thread.

Good luck, both can be ball busters. And, YES, I suspect you'll want to remove the fan clutch, fan & fan shroud to improve access & reduce cursing.
