hi im new here... ive been working with cars for a few years and all but i have a 78 f250 custom supercab with a 351w in it. i also own a 1967 amc ambassador with a 1974 jeep cj5 304 v8 in it.
But what im wanting to do is turn my amc into a performance car powered by ford, so im thinking about putting my 351 in my amc and putting the 304 in my truck seeing as how i drive my truck more than i drive my amc, the smaller engine wouldnt use as much gas in my truck. so my question is has anyone here done this? if so what complications is there?

There were no 351W's factory installed in F Series trucks until 1981.
1978 F250 2WD V8 engines: 351M / 400 / 460.
The 351M & 400's have 8 valve cover bolts per side, the 460 has 7.
351W's have 6.
As far as installing the 304 (Nash) Ambassador engine in a Ford truck. No comment.
You would have to move the trans with the motors as well. The bell housing would be different, as are the motor mounts/locations... quite a bit of work to do there...
I'm betting that by the time you got it done, it wil cost enough that, over the life of the engine, you could buy as much gas with that money as you will save with the swap If any. Just because the engine is a bit smaller doesn't necessarily mean you will get better milage. The smaller the engine, the harder it has to work, and your truck is heavier than the AMC.
