hey guys would adjusting the accelerator pump on the edlebrock 1406 give me a little pick up or not. it's on my 84 302 w/preformer intake the engine is due to be rebuilt later this year NOV time frame the timing has been bumped up. or what could i dod to get a little more get up and go???
If it accelerates smoothly with no hesitations, then adjusting it will not give you anything.
The carb works on airflow through it to supply the fuel to the engine. When you suddenly open the butterflies up, there is not enough airflow to supply enough fuel for the engine, since the rpm's of the engine take a little time to catch up. So the pump shoots fuel in the engine to compensate till the engine catches up enough to pull more fuel through the carb. Not enough fuel from the pump or too much fuel from the pump will just cause a bog or hesitation during this initial throttle transition time.
If you don't already have headers, you could go that route. Would bolt up again if you rebuild that engine or another of the same. I'd say a cam, but you might as well wait and do that when you build your engine.
