I would check a local salvage yard. The vent window assembly, as I recall, removes completely from the door shell as one piece including the forward track for the main glass. If I am thinking right, there is a small bolt that holds it in place at the top of the door frame and secures it to the shell, and another on the bottom of the door that secures the track inside it (think there is a bracket on the channel that bolts to the inner door skin too I believe.) Will require you to disassemble the door and remove the side glass to replace it, but should allow you to replace the whole works as a unit without too much agony (and without the hassle or cost of replacing the whole door.)

I am pretty sure this is right, and also pretty sure that all from 80-96 are the same unit, but if I am off, someone please speak up!

Hmmm....don't know how successfully you would be able to weld it...thin stuff when brand new....not to mention the proximity to the glass....glass and welding heat don't get along as far as I know. As for security, brand new, rusted, welded or not, someone who wants into the truck is only a ball-peen hammer away from getting in. It is surprisingly easy to break a piece of automotive glass, whether it be the vent window or door glass.
