Easy fix for running board lights
Take the steel light protector off, twist socket out of enclosure, cut wires 1/4" behind connector, remove tape there, peel plastic wire protector back. Go the the auto parts store and you should find an aftermarket socket with 2 wires called a Ford side marker socket. These are about $2 compared to a Ford socket which is $15 plus the connector $?, and much more waterproof so they will last much longer. Throw the 2 Ford pieces away and strip the 2 wires back 1/2", connect the new 1 piece socket which comes in different configurations for brighter/dimmer bulbs, (no need to find hot wire), put the plastic wire protector back over your tape job, put a little tape around the end of wire protector, twist the new waterproof socket into the receptacle, put some grease on the steel light protector bolts, and replace steel.
