Am I SOL.......

This hub is off my driver side axle and as you can see it is cracked. Is this where the vacuum 'chamber' locks and unlocks the hub? So if its cracked, I'm shuttin a screendoor on a sub trying to get it to work properly correct?

Discuss...

Time to upgrade(for less than $324) with some Warn hubs.

Jay, lots have switched to warn hubs, so someone might have one lying around that they don't need.

So is this one shot from a 'shift on the fly' perspective?

And does the warn have the dash control feature? or are they pretty much manual?
Sorry, not up on the hub stuff...

I believe you'll find that the stuff that popped out is kind of like the stuff that GM used to make tiny fuel filters out of that fit inside the carburetor's fuel input line. It's a porous material, and air has to pass through it to get sucked into the area that the little white thingie normally plugs to prevent water ingress.

I'd say the hub will still work.

However, you need to somehow keep water and dirt away from the white thingie, and at the same time allow air to be able to get to it. That's kind of a Catch 22.

No, the warn hubs will not have the ESOF for the hubs, only the transfer case will be used with the switch. You will have to get out of your truck and turn the hubs to lock. Hopefully someone has a set they don't need.
I like my ESOF, but I could go to manual hubs if I would have to.

Thumbs up

I have 1 hub that works fine, I bought used, the other one is frozen and i was going to try to free them up. That was before my vacuum leak. Then i got fustrated and just bought Warm premiums. Best move i ever did.
Go Warn and the problems go away...

I would go to to Guzzles page and email him for advice. He helped me out with my auto hub questions. I havent ever seen in that area before and I know he has drilled out a few and seen how they work better than most of us have. DuPont teflon spray lube works WONDERS to free them up if they ever freeze. Guzzle told me that and not 2 seconds after I sprayed it on it turned with EASE!

He knows these hubs pretty good.

On a side note...
I love my ESOF system and with proper maintenance it will treat you right. My truck is almost 10 years old and its broke ONE time because of an improper bearing installation.

You mean terms like "stuff" and "thingie"?

Well...... If I were writing the Ford technical manual I'd have access to the design engineers that actually invented it, and who surely named those parts.

Actually, "thingie" is a shortened form of "thing-a-ma-bob".

So, thingie isn't technical, but thingamabob, IS!

I can send you another hub dial but the "lock" and "Auto" has worn off. Plus you have to get the old one out.

PM me your e-mail address and I will e-mail the procedure on how to remove the dial (you have to drill a hole in it).

Thanks guzzle, I did mine today off of your website. I lubed evrything up on both sides and everything went fine. I was just wondering if the hole will prevent the ESOF from working properly.

No, there is no vacuum on that side of the internal diaphragm. But you do need to seal it up to keep water out.
