Mine just threw chunks. It dont look good pieces of it tore up the insulation under the hood now I have fiberglass stuck all over my motor. Whats left of the belt is still on so I need to know how to get it off. The idler pulley looks like it is not straight so I might have to replace it. Any help will be appreciated.
To remove the belt, put a socket with a long pull handle on the idler pulley bolt and move the idler pulley away from the belt, pull the belt off the idler pulley, slowly release the idler pulley, remove wrench, then work the belt off of the rest of the pulleys and over the fan to remove. Istallation is in reverse order (PAY ATTENTION TO THE BELT ROUTING ON THE PULLEYS)
If the idler pulley is out of aligmnet or loose/wobbly, replace the pulley assembly.
Just left and below the tension pulley there is a idle pulley that is missing the motor side of the flange that would ride the side or the belt. Is it Left hand thread? Its hard to get to with the fan and shroud in the way so I don't want to make things worse by tightening it.
it is a spring loaded tensioner. I think that I did the same thing when I first replaced mine. If I recall you should be able to push your breaker bar to the passanger side and the idler pully should slide out of the way. Unless it is real rusty it should not take too much effort to release the tension enough to slide the belt off.
