How do you know if your starter is going? truck is very hard to start has all it can do to turn over. Batteries are four months old and had them tested three weeks ago with a load tester and they tested fine. Changed the glow plug relay to a stancor two months ago and OHM's tested good on the glow plugs. Everythingis fine. How hard is a starter to change out. Disconnect the batts couple of bolts. anything I'm missing anything, any tips would be apperciated. does Napa have good starters?
Disconnect the batteries, couple of bolts on the starter, couple of nuts holding wires on the solenoid, couple of curse words balancing the starter while trying to get the wires back on the new solenoid, that's pretty much it.
Rebuilt items (starters, alternators, etc.) tend to fail much quicker than new stuff. If you go with NAPA, keep a copy of the receipt in the glove box. Some NAPA stores are corporate, some are independent. Their computers don't talk to each other, so if you want the warranty, you have to have the receipt.
It was the starter that was causing the slow starts. Changed it out for a napa rebuild one for 205 dollars. There was already a rebuild in there. Truck fired up better than she has in the last year. Thanks for all the help.

When I bought a starter I couldnt wait for a high torque one either, so I went to Napa here. I actually got a new "high torque" one from them, although I dont know exactly how high or torquey it is. It sure did work a world better then my old one. I keep the receipt in my glove box too
