Found a likely candidate locally in my long search for another Club Wagon w/sliding side door. Its a Willow green Florida '96 E150 Chateau ~140K miles w/absolutely minimal rust. Few small problems; rear AC seems to be working, but no air flow out of overhead ducts, pass & rear door handle cables disconnected inside, & minor cosmetics. The worst? Rear doors look like a madman tried to break in w/pry bar, chewing up both. Would want to find matching doors from salvage.
Runs fine, although felt like it shifted hard. Everything works, but forgot to try CC, no leaks.
Was excited b/c the woman said it was a 6 cylinder, the rare combination I've sought for years. Turned out to be just another 351. Rats!
Reinforces narrowing search down to the 6, a 302, or a 4.6 & will only consider a 351 if its an outstanding bargain. This Club Wagon is only a good deal, may make a lowball offer. However the constant barrage of posts on FTE about unlikely motor swaps is making me reconsider Building My Own Chateau. I've wanted a FI straight 6 for a long time. Why not just put 1 together? May be the only way. Need to find a Club Wagon w/great body/chassis that's DOA, bad motor and/or tranny & just transplant the I-6 drive train etc.
I haven't been around in a while...I didn't even know you were Club Wagon-less. Why no 351? Fuel consumption? I've often thought the mass air '96 351W would be the perfect small block club wagon. Good luck with the search.
Edit: LOL, I think I had you mistaken for Clubwagon...I see you're Club Wagon.
With 36 posts since joining in '04 you "haven't been around" much at all. Why would you conclude I was "Club Wagon-less"? Oddly enough "I've often thought the" FI straight 6 w/OD "would be the perfect" power plant for "club wagon". I'd like to explore the upper limit of Club Wagon's fuel economy potential & suspect 20 MPG is possible w/this combo. When I had an '85 w/carb I-6 & C6 it towed everything I hooked it up to.
