I am never on here much because I never have any problems with my 7.3L. Today, I pulled it in my garage and I seen a pretty good oil leak, so I looked under it and it looks like the oil pan is leaking a bit. Is there anything to slow that down or what do I have to do to fix it? Thanks for the help in advanced!
I suspect the oil is coming from the topside of the engine. Look down in the valley and see if it's standing in oil. Lots of places for oil leaks on the top. It will run down down the back of the engine and out the inspection plate.
The inspection plate has that little nipple on it, it is not coming out of the nipple, but around that nipple, probley like you said it is running down the inspection plate.
There are several places on top that can leak. The high pressure oil lines are often the problem. See if there is oil on top and notice the location, front or back of engine. If it's bad enough, you may see it leaking while running. You can wash the engine down with Simple Green and a garden hose and start with a clean engine. Makes locating the leak easier.
My truck is at my shop so I just looked at it and got very messy. In the valley you can see oil in a few places, sitting in a few puddles. I also got my bill out from Maroone ford and they said "Customer may have some residue due to drain hole in valley of motor drain into bellhousing of transmission" I have put 3k miles since this job, do you think there still could be some in there if they didnt clean it well?
Yes, that's possible. Get you some Simple Green or like degreaser and soak it down, then rinse with garden hose. See if it come back. Be sure and cover your alternator, top of the power steering pump and open air filter.
Well I looked good at everything down there and everything was dry except for the little puddles in the valley. I will do some serious washing tomorrow and I think that will be it. Even if there is no pressure on that hose when truck is off, if it was leaking wouldnt it be a little wet around the hose?
Yes, maybe. I had one leaking for nearly a year. It looked good, but until I replaced the oring, it leaked. I think it was spraying the oil enough that it looked good around the fitting. Why did you have to have the hose replaced?
