so i just failed at replacing my front pass wheel bearings. its a 95 f150 4x4 5.8... my intent is to change the inner and outer both. but mine dont look like the ones in the haynes manual.
i can get the hub cover off but i have no idea what people are talking about with regards to this snap ring, either mine is missing or its been replaced with a retaining ring that is impossable to get out.
the haynes makes reference to a stop screw in the hub, but i dont have it... how do i get ev everything outa there to be able to change out the bearings.
i tried to look up some other how-to's but was unsuccessful...
Once you get the hub cover off, there are two rings that need to be removed. One is the snap-ring which is on the end of the axle stub shaft. You need snap ring pliers for this one. The other is a metal ring that presses outward just inside the edge of the hub body. If you poke around along the edge, you'll find about a 1/4" gap where the ends of the ring are. If you pry up one side and slip something underneath it you should be able to get the whole thing out. Once these two rings are out of the way the hub itself will slide right out.
i looked at that hub for probably 25 min today and didnt see any ring to use snap ring pliers on... i think i know what your talking about with the hub body ring... i will have to double check tomorrow
