I have been having this problem and just can't seem to get it fixed...2005 F350 6.0 both sides rear brakes have been sticking when driving for 10 minutes or so, the longer I drive it the more the brakes stick/drag...I flushed the brake fluid and I also took the calipers off yesterday and checked the pins and they were perfect, cleaned and lubed everything up and reinstalled them and one side still does it and I'm sure the other will probably start doing it again...The caliper that is still dragging is maybe 6 months old. I did replace all the pads with hawk's about a year ago and it probably started a little after that...Could the pads be causing this? I noticed that the calipers take some tapping to fit over the rotor, is this normal or should they kind of slide right on without needing a little tapping to get it in?
I'm at the point where I'm not sure what to do next...any brake experts out there that could give me some insight on this? appreciate the help...Thank you. Oh and the hydro boost has been replaced within the last 2 years or so...fwiw.
Do the caliper push back in easy? Check to see if the hoses are deteriorating and allowing fluid to pass one way and not back. You can do this by opening the bleeder if the caliper goes back easy and with the bleeder closed it will not go. Their is a good chance that the hoses have some sort of obstruction.
Thanks bro I will check that in the am...I should probably get new hoses anyways right?
I have done just about everything I can think of short of the MC and the Hydro boost...
Check your parking brakes shoes and hardware, my buddy had issues with his parking brakes sticking.
I tried that but am unsure of which way to turn the star wheel to loosen the shoes? up or down? if it's up, would it be up on both wheels or reversed for each wheel? Thanks.
I recall one of the issues of a failing hydro boost is the rear brakes (and maybe all the brakes) will work/stick on their own. I would replace the hydro boost before doing anything else.
One possibility that you might want to look at. This applies to dragging brakes also.
2003-07 trucks grabbing brakes, pedal kickback:
This may be caused by power steering fluid contamination in the hydroboost system. There is a procedure for installing a temporary filter between the power steering pump and cooler to clean the system. After the cleaning procedure is complete and no brake grabbing or excessive steering effort is felt, remove and discard the filter. If brake grabbing continues, replace the hydroboost unit. Thanks guys, I'll try the filter first and then if it comes to that I guess I'm gonna have to replace the hydroboost...FWIW I got home today and noticed now that 3 of the 4 calipers are sticking/grabbing not just the rears...I'm about ready to blow this truck up!!
