clutch chatter
I drive "ole" trucks and am not familiar with your set-up. I can tell you that the clutch linkage has to be adjusted so that the release bearing is NOT touching the pressure plate when the clutch pedal is out. You stated that the bearing was jumping around, even if the bearing is touching the pressure plate it should be spinning not jumping around. Did the bearing fit snuggly on the transmission input shaft with no play? Almost sounds like you may have received the wrong size bearing for that transmission/clutch. As for the chatter. Only 2 things come to mind. The clutch disk has been inpregneted with oil(from a rear main leak or something) or there is an alignment problem between transmission and engine/bellhousing. I have read that on my ole 1970 that the dowel's between the block and bell housing can be rotated to compensate for alignment problems. Not sure if this would apply to your model. Hope some of this helps.
Good luck,
Lee
I read your post again and have another comment. I am more convinced that your either have the wrong bearing or a defective one. With the bearing dancing around, when you push the clutch pedal in the bearing will not be centered on the pressure plate diapham springs. This will/could cause the plate to release/engage unevenly. This I believe would also produce your chatter.
Good luck,
Lee
Hope that new bearing is the answer to your problem. Sure is a pain in the butt to have to pull the tranny again though. I know as I also had to do this due to the part's house giving me the wrong clutch assemble for my engine/transmission.
Again, I am not too familar with your model but, the only way I know of to attach the bearing to the fork is with the 2 c-clips that you have already mentioned. The bearing maintains alignment by sliding on the sleeve on the tranmission's input shaft. It should slide freely on this sleeve but with no side to side play.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
Lee
