I have a the PITA mazda M5OD (yeah yeah, throw it out and get a ZF). Thats all in due time, that time being when the freshly rebuilt mazda blows out again. I was wondering, what would be the best fluid for it, i was thinking a synthetic ATF for its better lubrication. Thinks.

There's a bit of disagreement over this, but the going answers are synthetic ATF and Synthetic gear oil.
Most people around here seem to argue for staying with an ATF fluid since that's what came from the factory.
I have read other vehicle enthusiast boards where others have put synthetic gear oil in the M5OD some (low to huge) number of miles ago and have not had troubles since. At least one reported the shifts are smoother, too.
I converted an actual Mazda 5 speed in a 1988 Mazda sports car to Mobil 1 gear oil (from the ATF in it) and never had troubles. I sold it 30,000 miles later in fine condition. I know that tranny shifted smoother after the switch.
I like the gear oil since it's thicker and it adheres better to the gears, but the last fluid change in mine was Mobil 1 synthetic ATF ( and one bottle of Amsoil Syn ATF since I ran out of the Mobil 1) since that's what I had at the shop. I do believe my tranny shifts smoother now.
