Post C6 Servo adjustment question

Well ten years of abuse are starting to take their toll on my tranny. The shifts are getting a little softer and I know a rebuild will be in order this winter. To get me through to the fall I thought I would tweak in the servo. My question is when I take the cover off should I expect a lot of fluid running out or just a small leak past the piston until I make the adjustment. Also how far should I adjust it; quarter turn, half turn? Thanks for the help.

C6 Servo adjustment question

The servo is not adjustable unless you swap-in different springs or a different piston. If you suspect the servo is faulty, you could change the seals on it, but that is about it. The adjustment for the intermediate band (what the servo activates) is on the opposite side of the C6. Adjust as follows: Loosen the locknut (outer nut) a few turns. Tighten the center adjusting screw to 10 ft-lbs, then back it off 1 full turn. Hold the adjusting screw in this position and tighten the locknut.

Ford recomends replacing the locknut, but I don't think this is absolutely necessary unless you have a leak at this spot. (The locknut is also a thread seal).
