Transfer case leakage...

I just replaced the rear oil seal for the transfer case in my '66 4WD and it's still leaking like before. Any suggestions as to what else may be causing this to happen? TIA!

If the seal-rub surface of the yoke is grooved or scored then there is a good chance a new seal won't stop the leak. You would have to use a micrometer to measure the journal and see if you can get a speedy-sleeve if its bad. Otherwise it would have to be reworked, usually they are hard chromed and ground to dimension... pricey. Or, if you're lucky ND might do one of his magic tricks and find an NOS one somewhere.

Thanks for the reply. I inspected the yoke and cleaned it before putting it back on and all looked good. Maybe it has just worn down enough to allow leakage? I have access to a Dana 20 transfer case from a Bronco and am wondering if it's yoke would be a direct swap for my Dana 21?? If so, my problem is solved because the Dana 20 did not leak.

Exactly, and this is a somewhat common problem.

C6TZ7B214A .. Output Shaft Flange (Yoke) / Obsolete

Fits: 1966 F100 4WD only...IF the transfer case is the 1966 original.

1961/65 is different / 1967/72 is different / F250 is different, as is Bronco.

BOWMAN SALES & SERVICE in Bowman ND has ONE: 701-523-3257.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has ONE: 800-543-4959.

My guess is...Bowman will be cheaper.

Look for the Ford ID number (C6TA-7A195-B or C) on the T/C, or any other numbers you can find, and post them.

Your truck is 43 years old...so who knows if the T/C is the original...or not.

I do not want you to get the wrong part because some PO made changes.

There is a Manufacturer's ID plate on the T/C that provides the serial #721427, model: 21 and B/M: 300530-2. Hope that helps.

300530-2 = 1966 f100 4wd.

300530-3 = 1867/68 f100 4wd

So the T/C is original or at least for the correct year ('66) and the yoke at Bowman's will fit. Thanks!

Make SURE the dimensions/splines are the same.

Even though the T/C is correct...one never knows if that's the original yoke.
