A guy on my other Ford board runs one on his race car and he loves it. Personally, I'll take this one over any factory DS2 or aftermarket MSD system any day - I like things simple and easy to fix while still working good
I sent it back.
From my measurments on my 84 302, the oil pump drive inserts into the stock dist shaft approx 3/8", and the first part of the shaft and the drive is rounded. So that leaves little more than a 1/4" of bite. If the dist is 1/8" short, that leaves 1/8". The ebay seller said there was nothing wrong with it, and that they were all like that.
so good things and bad things, damn guess this is a hit and miss or hit and get lucky type deal. i was planning to use the HEI conversion i did on my I6 with the point dizzy on the 351w i'm gonna drop in next week, better then the stock module but i think my setup is the same thing as that one on ebay only home made and separate parts. LOL
Also whats the difference between this one on ebay and a DUI model, is that the brand? or a type of setup?
I bought one of the cheap HEI,s for a 302 a couple of years ago.It worked just fine.
I had a holley intake and I did have to change something,I think it was the elbow for one of the heater hoses and I also had to change air cleaner to clear it.
The only thing I didn,t like about it was the size. They are big.I pulled it out and sold it when I put the engine in my 1991 truck that had fuel injection.
I,d probably buy one again.
I have one of the red HEI dizzies on my 351 W and am not very impressed with it. I would prefer the stock ignition myself, but it was there when I bought the truck and I haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet. Maybe I just need to fine tune it, but not sure yet. For what it's worth.
I would suggest the Duraspark/HEI hybrid that you can build yourself on the cheap and it is just as good if not better.
Oh shiz stosh, you were reading my mind, i have the conversion setup on the 300 right now and i had got that idea from you back then, BTW THANK YOU SO MUCH, That really helped alot!!!
so ya, i was just going to keep that setup with the new point dizzy but saw that and i liked how it was all together and very simple and no extra wire from the dizzy to the coil but i might as well just use my setup, i know it works , don't look pretty but hey it's a truck lolz
