ok my superduty did not come with a trailer brake controller from the factory, I'm to the point where I need one bad, what is the favorite? How expensive would it be to buy the Ford controller, I asked earlier this month and someone mentioned having to change something in the abs system? I'd appreciate any advice, thanks!
Factory TBC requires the unit for the dash and also a new master cylinder - in addition you would need your PCM reprogrammed. There used to be a sponsor here that sold the complete kit for the factory system, but if you don't have it, a lot of guys have just gone with an aftermarket brake controller with very good results. I think Prodigy is talked about quite often, but someone will chime in soon.
Retro-fitting the Ford BC will run you $4-600, if you do everything except programming yourself. A Tekonsha Prodigy will cost you about $100. There are advantages to both, particularly when it comes to mounting the Prodigy. But having used both, and I love the Ford controller, I would probably just install a Prodigy and be done with it.
