i am getting a pretty nasty vibration when starting off from a stop through a few gears then it goes away. i feel like it may appear again around 65mph or so and when climbing. it feels like it maybe right under me. cant feel it in the steering whee.. could this be a transmission problem? 02' SD 7.3L
i do have a lift, 6 in i think. i didnt install the lift, bought it like that. where might i start looking to see if a carrier bearing shim kit is installed and what would i be looking for? thanks in advance
Because you have a crew cab or a long bed, either one. You have a 2 piece drive shaft. So whe you lift a vehicle your drive line is no longer straight. So you have to put shims in where the carrier bearing is. This is where the to drive shafts meet up. There will be a U shaped bracket that hold the C.B. Look to see if there is any 3/8 or 1/4 inch shims are in between the bracket and the where the bracket bolts on. Adding these shims lowers the C.B. and straightens the drive line angle back to straight.
If there is none this is why you have a vibration.
Just took a look at the CB. everything looks to be stock. The drive shaft has a slight angle in it where the two ends meet. Ill try to though some shims in there to see if it fixes the problem. where might i find some of these shims?
Any place that sells lifts or off road equipment will have them.
They should be about $40 for a complete set. It will come with about 6 shims and 2 longer bolts. I beleive you will need about 1 shim for ever 2 inches of lift. It is some thing you will need to just play with. I would start with 3 shims then drive it. If you still have a vibration then add another on or take one out. It is extremely easy to do.
