All the FX-4 option gave you back then (pre 2008) was skid plates and "Rancho branded" shocks.
True...however, I think Powerstroke72 pointed out that the FX4 package *required* the limited slip. So it appears to get the FX4 package, the LS should be there. We'll see tonight ;-)
Actually, the FX-4 package required you to choose the 3.73LS and AT tires in order to get the FX-4 package. Either way, if it's really an FX-4, it will have the LS axle. From the '05 order guide:
FX4 OFF-ROAD PACKAGE (55F)

Requires 4x4, all-terrain tires and limited slip axle
Esp.... Esp if you never use it think of it as piece of mind. With it you don't have to pay the $100 deductable and all the benifits of a warranty. If I could have gotten esp on my truck I wouldn't be paying almost $1000 for a ficm. With just about any repair on a 6.0 it is going to make the esp worth the purchase. I have had a oil cooler replaced but other than that the truck has been troublr free 102k and a 04.
Good plan ;-) I already have found Troy "the warranty guy" from browsing FTE forums, and already have quotes for a few different plans that I'm eligible for because the truck is still under the 3/36 bumper to bumper. I will be purchasing some ESP for the very piece of mind you mention. As an analyst, I struggle with purchasing an ESP, but the piece of mind is worth it, as well as our good experience with a previous ESP covered vehicles.

Thanks!
Look at it this way: Would you much rather pay for something that if it breaks, you have to worry about how much it's going to cost to fix? OR Would you much rather pay for something that if it breaks, you don't have to worry how much it costs?
These trucks are expensive to fix when/if they break, my neighbor had an '04 Excursion and was quoted $7200 to fix his headgaskets, EGR cooler, EGR valve, Oil Cooler, and I think his trans that an Edge programmer chewed up.

I agree. My only decision points really is which ESP plan to go for...Powertrain, Base, Extra, or Premium CARE. I found the prices from Troy to be very competitive, just as other FTE members have said. And as a bonus, Troy is very responsive and pleasant in responding to email questions.

Go with the best one you can get, the best one is usually the most comprehensive warranty. Nothing sucks worse than when you go to get something fixed and they tell you: "This is covered, but that isn't and it's an insane amount of money...." So much for the peace of mind...
Ford has a Diesel care Warranty that goes to 7 years or 200K, I'd imagine that it would cover the entire truck and not just the engine and trans. Check with Troy though...

That's a tough one. I got the Premium Care basically because there's so much stuff on these trucks that can tear up. I look at it as relatively cheap insurance versus what it would take out of pocket to fix something major if it breaks.

The DieselCare and DieselCare Plus ESP's are engine only coverage...

The Diesel is great, but only for the engine...it's real benefit is the 200K miles. For people like me that don't put a ton of miles on, the Powertrain or others is probably a better way to go after talking with Troy.
The PremiumCARE is within the budget...and would protect me from virtually everything that is not a wearable item until 2013....very tempting.
I do have a slight concern about the SCT Tuner. I have some learning to do. Troy said if it is the possible cause of a failure, of a covered component, then coverage could be rejected. Again, more learning to be done on my part.
I've taken possession of the new truck, and it's a good feeling.
It does *NOT* have the FX4 package. The previous owner thought there needed to be just tad bit of color on the end of the truck there, so he put the decals on ;-) Mystery solved.... no limited slip... Axle code 37 on the VIN label. Also no skid plates... but those can be added to the list of things to add at some point.
The SCT tuner is an X3 and it has 3 tunes in it, Economy, Tow/Haul, and something called "Looney". The truck is running in Economy now; I plan to leave it for now until I learn more.
What a classy guy this young man is. He was pleasant to talk to and had the truck washed and cleaned even more than it was two days ago. He had the fuel tank almost full. I think he hated to see this little gem go ;-)
Yup... he had the stock wheels loaded in the bed for me too. $600 for the original KR 18" rims with stock tires that probably only had about 2500 miles on them. They looked plenty good.
