I have a 9" locker and found one wheel with play and the other
ok . I pulled it apart and found it to be play in the spider
gears. Since this was a used rear end I would like to get it right before using it. The end spider gear on the clutch side is not meshing fully. The gear has no spacer washer between itself and the housing. Is it missing or is the clutch pack worn. If its worn what should a good clutch pack thickness be.
I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to say the problem is but there is definitely supposed to be a spacer in there. It is common for that thrust washer to wear and fall apart. I took a good used one apart to put my mini spool in and one washer was gone and the other one was almost gone. Excessive clutch clearance will just make it harder to catch posi.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Aug-02 AT 11:07 PM (EST)]I took the clutch pack out and cleaned them up and found them badley worn ,some down to the metal. Are the packs available from aftermarket dealers or is it a Ford item only. Are these packs all the same or are they different. I don,t know what this is out of and its been shortened. Its got 11" drums with 2 1\4" shoes. the seals are in the tube and are 2.500" inside dia. The shaft seal is 1.508".It had 2.70 gears in it. Would you know Fords part number. I have heard some good stories about people at the counter not knowing a thing about what your talking about.
