I need to find out what trucks came with a 271. Ineed one for my 02 7.3 dually that im converting to 4x4. found a bunch of 273's but no 271's. Anybody know?
When you say 271. You mean NV 271, as in transfercase? Because the NV 273 is also a transfercase. ASSuming that is correct on what you mean, the NV 271 is the floor shift model, while the NV273 is the ESOF (electric shift model) transfercase. As far as I know, they came in every year super duty truck (with a 7.3). What you will need to match, is the tranny. (stick vs auto) They have different spline counts. From what I *think* I remember, you will also need to modify a 2wd trans (tail housing, and possible tailshaft, and some misc) to get the case to even bolt on. You may call Brian, at BTS, Im sure he has done just what you are trying to do, and would be able to give you further info.

You shouldn't need to. It's the same tunnel. Now the OBS had a separate bolt-down trans tunnel top that you could interchange if you were doing a manual/auto conversion. On the SD, there's already a 'filler' piece on the driver's side of the tunnel for the transer case manual shift lever. The cab and the trans tunnel should be the exact same regardless of a 2wd or a 4wd. The only difference would be if the carpet has the opening fo the shifter. If it doesn't, the sheetmetal does so you'd just need to cut the carpet accordingly.

You are right Ryan, for some reason I was thinking auto to manual swap, which does require a tunnel swap.
But do ya'll know which trucks came with a automatic trans and a 271?
Just about any truck from 99-03. Any would be the same. Just need to find a truck with an auto tranny, and floor shift t case. Most trucks came with an auto anyways, and the floor shift versus ESOF (NV 271 vs NV 273) easiest trucks to look at would be the XL class work trucks, most of them should have floor shift, while lariats would usually have ESOF, and XLTs would be 50/50. My XLT has floor shift, but the other 3 at work, have ESOF.
