REar Diff. on a 93 Bronco
I know this is a silly question but here goes. I am looking at purchasing a 93 Bronco. On a test drive I heard a whining sound whenever I accelerated. gone when I let off the gas. It was worse at start, less at higher speeds and gone at highway speed. My mechanic says it sounds like the diff is low on fluid. I can't get this truck to my mechanic before I buy so my question is, where is the fill hole on that diff so I can check it and fill to see if that does it? What is full? What type of oil do I need? I plan on buying the shop manual if I buy this truck, so i won't need to ask these silly questions.

There should be a fill hole plug on the drivers sied of the diff about hallf way up. I believe a 3/8" socket drive extention fits into the hole. The fluid should be all the way to the top, and maybe trickling out the hole a little. If not, fill 'er up with some 80W90. The stuff stinks and will NEVER wash out of your clothes, so don't get any on ya.
