I think my gearbox is going out, there seems to be about 2.5" of steering wheel rotation before you feel it turn the wheels. I noticed this on the return portion of a 2.5hr trip, I dont recall this much slop before. Its not the tierods because I ratchet strapped the pitman arm to one side and it didnt change a thing. The truck drives straight but when the wind suddenly blows the truck over it takes awhile to go across the slop.
I know about redhead boxes but they're $400ish(?). So I can get ATSCO or A1 Cardone, opinions/experiences from either?
I had the plastic cover off the rag joint area and rotated the steering shaft in the engine compartment when I was looking for which component was bad. How much was your redhead?
