drivers side door lock wtf???

Hello, so i thought the inside drivers door lock was messed up, but after 3 months or so like this, i just relized it works perfect when the drivers door is closed but will not lock when the door is open, it unlocks..., i have no battery drain the interior lights work properly and it locks fine when using the pass side, key fob, and outside number pad

does anyone have any ideas why this will not lock?

thanks, Tom

Try spraying some WD-40 inside the lock on the door latch and see if that helps.

You answered your own question ......... You can only lock the door when its shut by using the key fob, key , or key pad. This makes shure you dont lock the keys in the vehicle by accidently hiting the door lock button when exiting vehicle.

that's odd, when i first got my truck it was not like that i could lock my door with the lock button at anytime, this only started a few months ago, i believe right after i replaced the battery. but I'm not too sure, does anyone know of how to bypass this?, if i forget my keys in the truck and lock them in, is that not what the keypad is for......?

Could have been disabled at one time and when you swaped battery it reverted to original setting . Im not to shure how to dissable try checking manual. It should only unlock when door is open and you hit the lock button. Remember not all F-150's have key pads.

I like the fact that my 05 will not lock me out, if the key is in the ignition, or I manually lock them by hand before I close the door. My wife could use this feature on her car. Last week I had to break into my daughters Mazda. I asked her where her spare key was, she said "in the car".

Are you trying to lock the door with the electric switch or the mechanical lock button? My '07 locks with the door open when I push the electric switch. But as I think about it I have already removed the key from the ignition.

I'll have to read about it in my owners manual, but I just got back from a trip to town and did some testing. If I try to lock the door with the key in the ignition it will lock, but then unlocks by itself in about one second. That's using the switch. I didn't try using the mechanical button.
