Ok I plan on swapping out the old 302 in my truck to a 460. I figure if I'm going to spend the time doing all this, why put a stock motor in. I'm going to get a donor engine and go from there. First of all I want about 450hp and 500lb-ft of torque, shouldn't be asking to much. The question stands at how to do the build. Basically what cam, intake, carb, etc. Also what kind of tranny upgrades will I need to do?

One HP per cubic inch will require...
9.5 to 1 or 10 to 1 static c/r & premium fuel
Edelbrock RPM intake and 750 holley carb minimum
Large valve ported iron heads
voodoo 227/233 cam #61603 with early timing set
Properly recurved dizzy
1 7/8" primary headers or 1 3/4" in a pinch. 2.5" duals with straight through mufflers not flow masters!!!
KB 138 22 cc dished pistons with small chamber heads. KB137 flat tops with later large chamber heads. These would net you about 9.9 to 1 static c/r.
What would be a good engine to start with, year and model could find it in. When you say large valve proted heads, what size valves and how much porting? Also can you explain the early timing set(advance? retard the cam?) and the recurved dizzy?
