i just changed my oil, air, and fuel filters less than 1200 miles ago, since i did this, my truck started shaking when running, like i have a dead cylinder, but not bad enough to be a dead cylinder. the only time it has acted anything like this is when one of my fuel lines popped. but it doesnt shake near as bad as it did when that happened. i have tried advancing and retarding the timing. it settles it down a little when i advance it and shakes all to hell when i retard it. i dont have any visible fuel leaks or kinked lines and i am not smelling raw fuel. i also dont have a fuel pressure guage either. what could b the problem or what do i need to check to find out without playing the guessing game and replacing parts that are not the problem.
injector issue try pulling the fuel filter empty it out and fill it full of diesel kleen.put the rest of the bottle in the tank and also put a quart of tranny fluid in the tank
i know how you feel with this issue. mine only started after i put 8 new (not reman) injectors and new return lines and caps. tried doing the same with the adv and retarding the timing with the injector pump to have the same issue you have. does yours have that little pinging knock when you first start it up cold?
all new injectors, lines, caps, o-rings, new fuel filter gaskets too. it doesnt shake so bad when i first run it, its when it gets to full operating temp that the shaking starts. it is a 90 7.3. it doesnt knock real loud until i advance the timing
Good chance you got a little dirt in that new fuel; filter on the pump side and it clogged an injector. You can try loosening the inkection line nuts one at a time and listen for sound change. if you hit one that doesn't chage, youve found a culprit.
i just did the old hose to the ear trick (like a stethescope) and all but #6 made the same ticking noise. #6 made a hollow noise and didnt really "tick" at all, before i take anything apart i will try that & see if it changes.
ok, i just took all my injectors back to ford and got another set. i installed them & i still have this shake. i turned every fuel line fitting on the injectors & nothing changed. i am lost... i even did a compression check on all the cylinders every one was over 400 just about as soon as i turned it over... new crankcase vent, no leaks anywhere, running cool ( new thermostat from ford), good compression (new oil pressure sending unit from ford) please help!
When you replaced the injectors you did use new copper gaskets each time, did you check in the injector hole for old copper gaskets or carbon. Anything done to the IP prior to this problem arising..... Any smoke from the tailpipe(s).... what color and smell.
yes i used new copper gaskets, no there was nothing in the injector holes, never done anything to the injection pump. there was some carbon in the holes but i cleaned them out before i put the new ones in both times. i am blowing just a puff of blue smoke, but only when i mash on it. but i had a bad crankcase vent and it was letting oil by the diaphram into the intake. but i replaced that about 259 miles ago to be exact. so i think it is still burning the excess oil off. it didnt ever do this until i replaced the air filter. when i partially block the air coming into the canister it seems to calm down a little. could it be possible that it is getting too much air? should i try to turn the fuel up a little? i am trying to stray from doing that until i get a pyrometer.
