I thought this was an interesting article on Alan Mulally and his approach to running Ford. Call me a stupid noob if I should have posted in another forum, but I really only read this one, so this is where its at!
Kind of refreshing to see such a 'get the job done' attitude in corporate America - Unfortunately, I think this is the kind of leadership that is hard to find in America today.
Good article, I think hes doing a great job and theyre actually putting out a product that addresses the issues people were having with there past ford veichles.
Isnt Mulally the one that when he took over Ford drove a Lexus LS430 (before the 460 came out) and when questioned why he wasnt driving a Ford told the reporter that the LS430 was the finest automobile ever made? haha i like an honest guy.
Good article. He did turn Boeing around before Ford hired him. He seems to be on the same page as Bill Ford, Jr and seems to be determined to succeed. I certainly hope he can do it. I don't want Ford to become what GM has become. Ford seems to be addressing the quality issues and fuel efficiency issues that have plagued them for years. It's going to take awhile to overcome the perception of Ford being inferior, but I think Mulaly is on the right track. I just hope the Board and the Ford family stays committed to it.
I think that the fact that Mulaly isn't a car guy is the secret to his success. You don't have to be a system expert to make the machinery work. You have to be driven and be the kind of person that people want to follow. Case in point, look at the daily responsibilities of a Captain of a warship.
thats alot of the problem with detroit....its only car guys....but only about 10 percent the people buying cars are "car guys"....you've gotta make cars that the masses want to buy
