I have been having some cold starting issues with my truck. My friend has a SCT Tunner for his ford Escape and we have used it to scan for codes on other vehicles but on my truck it gives an error. I forgot what it says, something like a communcation error. Does a tuner have to be diesal tuner to pull codes?
I would imagine that a Ford SCT tuner would cover all ford's regardless of gas or diesel, unless there is a toggle selection that you hit to make it go from gas to diesel computer scanning. I haven't used a SCT in a long time, so I can't remember too much about all the little ends and outs of them.
I will say this though, the scanner option from tuners isn't as good as a professional scan tool. Be it computer software or a scanner that looks like the tuner scanner. Even though the SCT may not find codes, that doesn't mean that there aren't goods being thrown and not all codes throw the CEL.

You need a scanner with OBDII and CAN capabilities. I bought the Inova Equus 3130.
Most of the SCT tuners that are being sold now have both.
...we don't don't know HOW OLD the SCT is and it was sold for an Escape, not the diesel. Don't know if that makes a diff.... easy way to find out...take truck to an A.Z. and have them put one of their scanners on it.....free service.

I don't think the escapes are that old, atleast not as old as the 6.0(03s) and I know the xCal 2 would be able to handle both and that came out with when the 6.0s did.
I'd STILL take it or have it scanned with a OBDII with CAN capabilities.......
I'm not saying I'm against that at all. I would say get autoenginuity in a heartbeat. About 3-4 scans with that and it'll be paid for based on what the dealership here charges for.
