diff oil leak
Have just installed a rebuilt 9 inch rear in 40 ford pickup. have oil leaking from rear, appears to be leaking from pinion nut area and not the seal. Is there a seal behind nut and washer??? What to do ???

There is no seal behind the pinion nut, the problem is worn splines on the yoke and the gear oil is pushing itself through the splines. Ford has very soft yokes and common practice for us is to put a film of sealant on the bottom of the yoke splines before assembly.
