Driving Three on a tree

Hi, I just bought a 72' F-100 and I just learned how to use a three on the tree shifter. However, when I try to downshift from 3rd to 2nd it grinds a bit before going in! Is there something that I am doing wrong or is it a bigger problem?

Robert, Since you are just learning I'd say you may not have the technique down, but the clutch may need adjusting or replacing.

Are you pushing the clutch pedal all the way to the floor when you are attempting this?

I was ensuring that last night, I have been trying to practice. I am going to take the truck to our family mechanic and he will take a looks since he is very familar with Fords. If he grinds it then yeah theres probably some adjusting to be done!LOL

Grinding between 2nd and 3rd can also be caused by the two 2-3 brass syncronizer blocker rings.

They are prolly worn down to a nub.

Great thank you. I am learning about how to work on a car... I have another so this is my first project. It just takes time thats all....and money.LOL
