4X4 engaging only on one side

Today I changed the ESOF hubs to Warn Premium and after changing the second one i tested my job and here is what i found:

- Everything looked in good shape on both side ( clean, nothing broken inside )

- I turned on the 4x4 ( transfer case ) from inside the truck.

- Lifted the truck on the passenger side, lock the hub and tried to turned the wheel -- can not turn the wheel, good news !

- Lifted the truck on the driver side, lock the hub and tried to turn the wheel -- really easy to turn...

What is that means ???

I need help, I am not a mechanic at ALL !!! I can do some minor work on the beast but the budget is tight so I might have to fix it myself !!!
Thanks
Max

Did you try turning the hub the other way?

Basically, a collar is moved so that it engages both the splines in the axle short shaft and the splines lining the hub. If this collar moves enough to make engagement, then the hub is locked to the axle.

something to keep in mind, the front axle stock is open diff. Power usually goes to the path of least resistance, so watch the ujoint for spin rather than just feeling for the resistance of the transfer case.

The front axle is an open differential type set-up. The results of your tests are normal and are what you would expect to see. If you really want to check things out use four jack stands and lift all the tires off the ground. Lock the hubs, engage 4x4 on the dash and let it idle in gear. You should see the left read and the right front tire spinning. If you have a limited slip rear, the right rear tire might also spin slowly.

Are you sure that both hubs were in the unlocked position when you installed them. Not sure about this specific application but many applications if you install them in the locked position they wont work...

also if you look at the U joint on the axle shaft behind the wheel, when you spin the wheel on the shaft /U-joint should turn also. If so then its working...
Another test is to lock the hubs, put it in 4 wheel drive and drive in a circle on pavement, you will feel significant binding... this means 4wd is working too. drive straight line before changing back to 2 wheel drive
